Holiday Gift Guide

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and that means it's time to make a list and check it twice! One of my favorite things about the holiday season is shopping for gifts to give to my friends and family.  I love the feeling of finding the perfect gift and I love the feeling of giving gifts to the people I love even more. However, finding the perfect gift isn't always as easy as it may seem. There are many things to take into consideration when shopping for gifts; personality, size, price. For some, it can be a stressful part of the holiday's, so I've rounded up a gift guide with a variety of gifts that you can't go wrong with!
First on the list is a pair of Victoria's Secret flannel pajamas. Pajamas are such a classic gift that everyone loves to receive. These plaid flannel pajamas are perfect for a cold winter's night or even for opening presents on Christmas morning.  Second, is a cute holiday themed mug. What better way to celebrate the season than with a cup of hot cocoa in a festive mug!? Next on the list is a gold bow ornament from Kate Spade. Help your friends deck the halls, by gifting cute holiday decor for their tree or home! Next is a pair of reindeer stud earrings. I love these earrings!! They are the perfect statement piece for a holiday party! Or, if you're friend is more of the stay in and bake the night away kind of gal, this set of cookie cutters from H&M Home are the perfect gift for her! Next on the list is a set of Essie nail polishes. You can't go wrong with a classic red nail for the holiday's, and adding a little gold glitter is a great way to up the festive factor. For your more adventurous friends, help them stay stylish as they hit the ski slopes with this fur pom pom, cable knit beanie! And lastly, for your tech savvy friend, keep them in the holiday spirit as they call their distant relatives to wish them a Merry Christmas with this adorable, monogrammed, reindeer phone case!
You can see the gifts I have rounded up below and be sure to check out the links I have provided for them! I hope this will help make your holiday season a little more stress free! Happy Shopping!!

Christmas Windows in the City

One of the most exciting things about being in New York City during the holiday season is admiring all of the extravagant window displays on 5th Avenue! This year, the stores definitely did not disappoint.  I explored the windows of Lord & Taylor, Macy's in Herald Square, Anthropology, Saks 5th Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman. Each in their own way express holiday cheer with everything from cupcakes, to gingerbread houses, ice queen inspired couture, Charlie Brown and his gang, and sparkles, sparkles and more sparkles. Lord & Taylor used a lot of technology in their windows, featuring a conveyor belt of sugary confections and a shimmery woodland animal coo coo clock. Macy's took on a family fun approach by recreating classic scenes from a Charlie Brown Christmas. Charlie Brown and his gang are seen singing around the tree, while Snoopy is featured atop of his 1st place prize winning, decorated dog house. There is even an interactive feature that allows you to create your own Peanuts character to add to the display! Anthropology paired their mannequins with gingerbread sculptures of snow covered villages and ski mountains. Each mannequin is dressed perfectly to accompany its gingerbread setting. Saks 5th Avenue created a winter palace with elegant displays of icy chandeliers and tables covered with sweets. The mannequins are dressed up in couture, perfect for an ice queen. And last but definitely not least, Bergdorf Goodman teamed up with Swarovski to celebrate Swarovski's 120th birthday. Each window features its own theme, from a big birthday bash, to a fortune teller, but one thing they all have in common is that they are all decked out in Swarovski crystals.
Check out the video I made below to get a glimpse of the windows and make sure you go out and explore them for yourself before the holiday season is over!

The Perfect Palette

Fall is known as the most colorful time of year; the leaves change to warm hues of orange, yellow, and red, and bright orange pumpkins and shiny red apples are of abundance.  However, these aren't the only colorful things about fall. With each fall, comes new color trends, filling store windows and filling our closets. This fall, there are many new color palettes being displayed by trendy retailers all over the city. This season's color palettes include everything from jewel tones, to neutrals, pastels, and classic fall colors like burnt orange and red. There are so many ways to incorporate these colors into an outfit to create the perfect palette. Take a look below to see a few of my new favorite color combinations and for inspiration for how you can turn the color palettes into outfits that are perfect for these crisp fall days!

This first palette is made of rich blue and deep purple jewel tones. As you can see, this color palette was incorporated into this dress with the embroidery detail. When shopping for fall pieces, look for embellished, embroidered, or printed items.  This is an easy way to find popular color palettes for the season, and to incorporate them into your wardrobe, because you can achieve the palette with a single item rather than putting items together to achieve a palette yourself.

This is by far my favorite palette of the season.  I love how although there is contrast between the neutral, blush pink and camel color with the dark gray and blue, it is still a soft and simple palette.  It is the perfect palette for any minimalist. Here, we see the palette tweaked a little bit, where the dark blue was substituted for black. However, it still gives the same effect. The outfit is kept to minimal detail and incorporates different neutral tones. Using accessories, like her blush pink purse and scarf, is a great way to add a little extra detail to the simple outfit, while still sticking with the minimalist style.

This palette combines a pastel blue with classic fall tones like dark brown and beige. As shown in this outfit, a neutral colored, wool coat is a great staple piece for fall, that can be worn with many different color palettes.  Here, it is paired with a pastel blue dress and tall, dark brown, suede boots. The color-block purse ties the color palette together by incorporating both the dark brown and neutral tones. By wearing neutrals in all other aspects of the outfit, the pastel blue dress still pops even though it is a soft hue.

Here, we see a much more classic fall color palette. Because these are much brighter, saturated hues, it can be hard to put together an outfit around them.  As you can see in this outfit, the colors were incorporated through her accessories. Accessories are the perfect way to add just a little pop of color to a simple outfit like this one. The classic beige trench and jeans let the accessories achieve the desired color palette.

I hope these color palettes have inspired you to try new color combinations when updating your wardrobe this season! Happy Shopping!!

Street Style: Fall Accessories

There are so many places to find new trends, but one of the easiest and one of my favorite places to look is right outside my door! New York City is the perfect place to spot new trends on the street. This week, I took to the streets on the search for this fall's latest trends in shoes and accessories.  I took pictures of the street style trends and then went online to look for the items and other items alike. The most popular shoes and accessories I saw while I was out were blanket scarves, ankle booties, lace up flats and backpack purses. Take a look below to see the street style pictures and for the links to similar items I've rounded up! Oh, and make sure to keep your eyes open the next time you are out and about- you never know what street style trends will inspire you!

The Fall Must-Have

With the fall season approaching, I am always excited to try new trends.  This season, one of my must-have pieces is a blanket cape.  The blanket cape is an effortless piece that is perfect for staying warm and cozy in the brisk fall weather.  It isn't too heavy, which makes it an easy layering piece.  The blanket cape can be worn so many different ways and for so many different purposes. Layer it over a basic long sleeve shirt, a pair of jeans, and add a pair of flats or riding boots for an easy going, casual look, or belt it around your waist, to accentuate your shape, and add a pair of heeled booties for a dressier look! Either way, you can't go wrong with the blanket cape! I've rounded up a few of my favorite capes and have linked them below. Be sure to check them out and don't be afraid to try one for yourself!

Essie // Seventeen Event

On Monday, my friends and I had the opportunity to attend the Essie Fall 2015 Collection Preview Event, hosted by Seventeen Magazine at the Hearst Tower.  The event showed off the six new shades inspired by the rock 'n roll era. The new shades range from saturated fall hues, like a burnt cherry red, With the Band (my personal favorite!), to a metallic cobalt blue, Bell-Bottom Blues, and a sparkly stone gray, Frock 'n Roll.
From left to right: Leggy Legend, With the Band, Color Binge,
In the Lobby, Bell-Bottom Blues, Frock 'n Roll
Everything from the candy bar, to the mocktail bar, to the flower arrangements incorporated the colors of the new fall collection.  It was also a great chance to mingle with some fellow Essie lovers, including the beautiful Carly Heitlinger of The College Prepster! All around, the event was a great way to introduce the new shades and to get excited for the upcoming fall season! Check out the pictures below to get a glimpse of the event and make sure to try out the amazing new collection!

Battery Park Concert Series

Last Thursday, my family packed up a cooler, a few lawn chairs and a picnic blanket and headed down to Battery Park in Burlington, Vermont with some friends for one of our favorite summer traditions.  Every summer, a local radio station, The Point FM, has hosted a free concert series at the band shell in the center of the park!  The concerts are every Thursday night through the month of July and feature local musicians that are frequently played on The Point. Good music, good food and good company always make for an enjoyable evening; not to mention the gorgeous views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks that the park offers. And of course, the night wouldn't be complete without ice cream from the Ben & Jerry's truck! It is a night that friends and family of all ages can enjoy!

For the concerts I always like to wear something comfortable and cool.  Last week, I wore a sundress from LOFT with my new favorite sandals from Talbots.  The dress is so light and breezy; it is perfect for a warm summer night in the park.  I love this dress because it is so versatile! It can easily be worn casually with sandals for a night like this, or can be dressed up with heels and fancier jewelry. I finished off this outfit with a fun necklace, a white bucket bag purse and big sunglasses.

If you're looking for something new and fun (and free!) to do in Burlington, I highly recommend coming to one of the concerts in Battery Park! There are still two more weeks left in July, which means two more chances to come to a show. Check out the pictures below for outfit details and a glimpse of the concert scene! Hope to see you there this Thursday!

Girl's Night Out

One of the best parts of being home for the summer is being reunited with my friends. My three best friends, Lauren, Taylor, and Kari, and I started hanging out during our freshman year of high school and have been inseparable for five years now. Even though we go to different colleges, in four different states, we are always there for each other and cannot wait to see each other when we are all home. There is never a dull moment when we are together.  One of our favorite things to do together is dress up for a night on the town! The other night, we thought it would be fun to go out and have a little photo shoot on Church Street, in Burlington.  We had so much fun goofing around while capturing the perfect night.  Of course the night wouldn't have been complete without ice cream from Lake Champlain Chocolates!
For our girl's night out, I wore a seersucker skirt and navy eyelet top, both from LOFT, with white, heeled sandals from Aldo.  I kept my jewelry simple with my favorite earrings from Kate Spade and bangles from Alex and Ani.  And of course I carried my go to, pale pink Kate Spade purse.  This outfit is clean, cool and comfortable. It is perfect for any summer night!
Check out a few of my favorite shots from our girl's night, as well as my outfit details below!
